A native San Franciscan, based in Santa Fe since 1993, Nina Farana comes to her art as much by instinct and passion as by formal education. Self-taught in the visual arts, her background in communication, dance and poetry has played an important role in forging the artist’s vision.
Nina Farana has a B.A. in Communications from Stanford University where she also pursued graduate studies in Dance Education. For more than 30 years, she was active in the field of dance as a choreographer and producer, as well as a solo and ensemble performer. In the early 1990s, she founded and directed Inside Out Arts, a San Francisco dance theatre group.
As with dance, she has evolved the style and form of her artwork from individual experimentation, practice and improvisation. Nature and movement as much as innate sense of rhythm and design have been her teachers. The silence - her muse.
Her work has been shown in contemporary art galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico and added to several private U.S. collections. In addition, she has written many volumes of poetry, which explore realms similar to her visual art. She currently is adding to her collection of finely crafted collages.
